I am having one of 'those days' they don't come often but when they do I think ' what the heck am I doing??' The chickens are not laying well, and still costing the same to feed, the ducks I bought POL over 2 months ago still have not laid :P, the pigs are still waiting on the good will of a friend to go to slaughter and now getting larger than wanted and more destructive, they got out the other morning and it was funny to begin with but trying to get 2 large boars back where they belong is not easy! The little bit of rain we had hardly touched the paddocks and so have to continue to feed the lambs and geese, the depressing news bulletins about a 'double dip', the washing, cleaning, cooking, picking, freezing, preserving, mucking out etc etc etc...........arrrrrggggghhhh.
Actually I feel a little better now I have got it off my chest!! Do others have days like this or am I not cut out for it, much as I love it most of the time???

Sorry your day has not gone well. If its any consolation my hens are not laying well either - this summer has been bad for my egg business. Plenty of customers, not enough eggs, don't know why.
I had one of those days too, yesterday. Old dog collapsed down the field, and I struggled to get her back on her feet and up to the house - took ages. Poorly hen died. Goats broke into hen coop, and let bantam and chicks out, luckily I got there in time to stop the cat from eating a chicken. But in breaking in, they had knocked a heavy sheep hurdle down, and squashed an ex battery hen. It was still alive, but will probably be rather sore, and definitely will not lay after its shock!! The the older goat who has a swelling between his front legs, it suddenly burst, so lots of pus coming out, and had to deal with him, who did a runner rather than be treated. The new large bale of hay I opened for the goats, I found is not good quality at all .......went to pick up some harness from Cheshire last night, got lost going. Made it late for journey back, and arrived home in the dark, worried the fox would have my hens which were not shut in (thankfully ok though when I got back).
So, I had one of "those" days too. Here's hoping we have some good days to make up for it.

No it happens to all of us. I have five naughty piglets waiting for slaughter. They got out on Monday, we thought we had fixed their and wondered around, well one of the gilts must have given herself a bit of a tummy ache as she wasn't up for her breakfast of carrots and apples on Tuesday but by dinner time she was fine. Anyway fed them today it rained so I delayed feeding their Mum and Dad only by half an hour anyway while I was walking down to feed Mum and Dad in a different paddock there they are trotting along beside me arrgh can't wait till they are pork, bacon, sausages and ham ;D. I live in Victoria Australia, you can have some of our rain if you like, but could we have it back in summer please ;D. Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

Doesn't rain but it pours they say Roxy! :)

Glad it's not just me! Sounds like you had a really 'off' day Roxy, how come it all happens at once!! I am just feeling sorry for myself today I think, might be a good time for a baking session a large chocolate cake must be the order of the day! Would love some of your rain Annie, where abouts in Aus are you? My parents have just finished a 2 year tour of Australia and NZ they may have passed close by!
Thanks guys ;D that's the great thing about this website, people all on the same journey helping each other along.

Join the club! It is sometimes only the fact that I've been doing it all my life(with a few breaks) that I carry on at all. Remember, things do go right as often as they go wrong and it's a lovely life :)

If you wake up still breathing and go to bed still breathing, then it has been a good day.
All the things in-between those two events are unimportant and insignificant when compared to those who have been unfotunate and haven't met one of the events above.
;D

That's a bit deep ::) Chin up everyone - it's a nice day, today the back door is wide open, I am through in the study, one Brit girl is asleep in the kitchen, the other is outside stretched out in the grass run, the boys are fast asleep on the floor beside me, and Hester, my 13 year old GWP is on the day bed - still breathing thank god - she's a lot of dog to shift when she goes. Hope it's a good long while yet! Peace reigns and life is good ;D ;D

LOL, thanks for that SFS! I should have remembered that, its what my dad (73) says, ' I woke up, today is a good day'!
Sylvia, how long have you been doing this for? I am on year 3 and each year think this has to get easier, it is really, as the place was quite run down and we have replaced oodles of rotten fencing and putting in chicken pens, fruit cages, greenhouses, clearing away rubbish etc. How long do I have to be doing it before I can take a year off LOL!! Even a holiday would be nice at the moment, each time we go away to my dad's for a couple of day's my daughter rings up and says 'the fox has been' or 'the sheep have escaped' Ha ha, never a dull moment!

Hello friesandfilly
you definately aren't the only one :) In fact we've had one hell of a month - made worse by the school holidays and weather being bad so the girls are less able to go out as much.
a couple of weeks ago my husband sustained bad second degree burns after an explosion while he burnt some old wood. his face and arms are still sore and red but we are very , very lucky. My 5 year old was outside and saw her daddy on fire :(
my mum's MS has flared up and down so looking after her, poorly hubby (who's a stubborn g*t and won't let me look after him!!) and 4 girls (youngest is mid-terrible 3's) - and its plum harvest, our busiest time of year!!!
I've had several days where I've thought I can't do this anymore but what I do is go out to watch the sunset over our land and livestock when its all peaceful and somehow things seem that bit better.
humans are allowed down days - its making sure you enjoy the up days that's important!

moral support offered to all.... :-* :farmer:

Sorry to hear that you have had a bad day but yes it does happen to us all, animals are so unpredictable. I have actually had a very good day today, started by poo picking the pig pen and playing with the 3 boys one of them kept bringing me a mouthfull of straw out of the arc, not sure what that was about but it gave me a laugh. Have not had much time to spend with them recently so really enjoyed it.

Always take one positive from every day. If you look close enough there may be more than one and it's a bonus.
It may be that the only one is that you are still breathing but that's the most important one so celebrate it.
I find that just having animals around at sunset seems to put things in to perspective and calms me down too.
Finally, all sing along..........
Always look on the bright side of life (you can make the whistling sound here ;D )

My singing is MUCH better! I use a pink whistle for my gundogs lol

Go and smell the flowers, look at a rose, cuddle a pig whatever is your "thing", somehow it makes it a bit better.

I was born on a farm so all my 60 years really with a few years here and there when circumstances decided otherwise.
The secret is to keep on top of things and not put anything off 'til tomorrow.
Also not to rush through life but to take things gently!

May you always have work for your hands to do.
May your pockets hold always a coin or two.
May the sun shine bright on your windowpane.
May the rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near you.
And may your heart be full of joy.

No matter how down you feel or how bad things look, there is always someone worse off. Positive thoughts bring positive reactions. I never let anything get me down & always have a smile on my face. We all have off days & you just have to remember not every day will be the same :)
Keep smiling, look forward & be positive. :) :) :) :) :) :)
