Please can you help what size of freezer do i need for one pig?. :pig:
-
Somebody else has recently asked this and I am afraid I don't remember the answer! Quick search should find it! Always buy bigger than you need! (the next pig may come quicker than you can eat!)

A pig finished at 75- 80kg would fill a tall freezer around 2/3rds

Get one as big as you can, we never have enough freezer space as we buy our lamb by the half and beef by a big box!! (all locally produced) and then theres our pork, bacon etc to go in it too. Currently running 2 uprights & one fridge/freezerand they're all stuffed full. Had new seaon lamb chops last night with new pots & salad from garden. Deelish.

a mid sized chest freezer will do. ours has the last of last years lambs a half pig and a quater of a cow with lots of space left.

Definately get the biggest you can afford, we recently had our 2 mw's back and we were so glad we bought a big chest freezer, better too much space than too little.

I have an american book which quotes a figure of 35-40pounds of meat to 1 cu ft of freezer space.

i bet thats mince. lots of nobbles and bones on our stuff. i would not over pack it it may not freeze fast enough.

The technical response is that you should only freeze down 15% of the freezer capacity at a time

thay could involve a lot od meat hanging around if your doing a couple of pigs.
