Title: Mesh floors in coops

I assume the main purpose of a mesh floor in a chicken coop only to have a droppings tray underneath and therefore easier to clean/keep clean? If the house is raised up of the ground to keep vermin at bay then is there any disadvantages of having a mesh floor- would it be too cold in winter? If it is a good idea the nwhy do all coops not have this as standard. Any thoughts.

You still have to clean the mesh every so often too.  I can't see it would be any more comfortable for them than the cages in a battery hen establishment.  I prefer vinyl and straw.  It's not all about our convenience.

Are you proposing having a mesh floor open to the outside ? I think that would be way too cold in winter - certainly draughty and provide VERY easy access for rats and other vermin. (they can climb  ;))
I'm like Annie, solid floor on my shed, lined with vinyl then a deep bed of shavings and straw (the vinyl lifts out in one piece to make it easy to clear out)
