Hi all, not too personal so here I go,
I had a hip replacement some 5 years ago due to being born with a dislocated hip, all is great, no pain from that, just pulled the muscle a couple of times and that WAS horrid, anyway, I have always had a slight tingling in the opposite thigh and an ache in the base of my back, ever since I had the opp, the back stuff only is when I stand for a long while.
I went to the Drs and then the physio who explained as my hip/walking had been lob sided since birth walking level is new to my body and I have a tiny small backbone slightly out that could be the cause, anyway, when I walk I get more tingling but as I have been walking everyday for at least 1 mile usually up to 5, my back has improved, in fact I have not noticed any discomfort from that, BUT, yesterday, I walked along the road and back and when I went to unlock our front door, my legs gave way and I almost fell into the doorway, then a few seconds went buy and then I felt a rush, tingly sensation as the blood went back into my legs!!! I felt awful for ages after and have tried to see the local Dr but he is fully booked so I thought I would bore you all with this and value any input as I am worried this may happen in a less convenient place...P.S, I have had it before, more often when I have just woke up so sit down quickly or in the shower!!! but not too often!!!
-
And I used to get very bad restless legs but not since I have been taking magnesium....I do have a lactose intolerance as well!!
-
could be a blood clot
-
::) Hope not!!!! I have tried to get into the Dr but only emergency appointment left!!! not sure what an emergency would be if you have to make an appointment????? Any way, I still think it could be the base of my spine and the odd change in movement causing the trapped blood supply or similar, not sure what they can do for that but now you got me thinking.....
-
If you're falling over without meaning to, I'd consider that an emergency. :o
It sounds as if it may be caused (possibly) by a compression of the spinal chord, which has trapped nerves which are then spontaneously failing to coordinate muscles, but I may be wrong.
-
especialy when no drink envolved ::) my ring again to book that emergency appointment!!!
-
Appointment made for later today......THanks...why do they make you feel so guilty???? My daughters ex boyfriend's dad went to the Drs and was sitting looking ill in the waiting room so a patient swaped appointment times with him telling him to take her place as he looked in desperate need only to be told by the receptionist, NO, we all have numbers and to waite our tern and not jump ques, needless to say he died!!!!!! (I have told this on here before but it was a bit worrying)
-
I have had a similar problem for many years, since falling off a horse in my teens. It appears to be from pressure on the spinal column from the damaged disc. I cant say anything more helpful, but at least from my experience its not life threatening.
Can you phone the receptionist and ask her to ask the GP if he would consider this an emergency?

Good luck Sandy hope all goes well. :bouquet:

I think thats my prolem too, as I said, I had a bad hip for 50 years so when it was repaired my spine was very slightly twisted at the base and now having being used differntly so putting pressure on a point in my lower spine, strangly enough, since doing much more walking I do not get that sorness at the base of the spine, so at least thats better....It's happened a few times but not regularly and I do get a few seconds warning, this time however I couldn't get the key in the door fast enough..I bet there is nothing they can do...I shall hold on going up and down stairs!!! thanks, I am going this PM.

My OH turned 2 people away last night as he was worried..and we are very short of £££'s at the moment evewn though we are never empty..not much money in this B&B stuff, it all goes back into the building!! thankyou!!
-
Sounds like some sort of spine compression to me too - although it's been a few years since I worked in orthopaedics!
Let us know how you get on this afternoon xx
-
Could be a number of things (not my area of medical speciality so can't comment in detail)
But it is entirely appropriate to request an emergency appointment for such a problem!
So keep that appointment and don't feel guilty about it ! :)
-
In our local practice they call appointments either 'routine' or 'urgent' and an emergency is just that and you would go to hospital. Your problem is urgent as others have said. Don't let receptionists bully you - one nearly killed my OH too but is now out of a job ;D. You are the one to decide if it's urgent or not. If the spinal nerves are being compressed then there should be something a good orthopaedic surgeon can do to relieve it and you have the right to ask for a referral. Let us know how you get on.

This sounds like similar symptoms to a friend. He broke his femur in a motorbike accident and ended up with one leg shorter than the other. and to compensate his spine twisted. He had constant pain and tingling in his lower back and leg. The way he coped is a bit extreme. He moved to Australia! for a better climate, as he used to get really bad each winter. The main thing that helped him was to get into mountain biking. It has strengthened his muscles and taken the burden off his joints. I hope you get sorted soon

Bin, need an X Ray as thought, Dr thinks it's a trapped nerve maybe due to swelling due to artheritis from my body having to over compensate due to years of bad hip!!! He also suggested an ice pack on my back before I go to bed,,,,thats nice, I will be fffffffffreeeeeeeeeeeeezing until I summon a hot flush!!!! Thanks all, I will keep you up to date as I am sure my health or lack of it is not the least bit interesting to anyone ;)
-
At least you now know what the problem is, Sandy. Hopefully, x ray will show whats up, and you can have treatment.
Not ideal having a back problem, when you have a B & b and all the work that goes with it.
-
Thanks
-
Only just got to read this Sandy. Hope you get the x ray soon and get sorted as soon as possible.
All the best,
Ian

-
Did you get my message? I'll come with you.
-
can go to Larbert I think, not able to go on Monday or Tuesday due to breakfasts but should be able to make THursday as early as possible....I was suppose to have an X ray ages ago but never went then I lost the paperwork. I think there is just a slight misalighnment due to years of walking lob sided!!!!!!!!I shall let you know, thanks, at least the hospital is brand new!!
-
Only just read this, Sandy. I don't think it's a blood clot, Sandy. Better get it chekced out, though, most likely to do with your hip. Emergency appointments just mean that they are 5 mins instead of 10!

Relieved for you. HM
