Hi my Anglo Nubian billy has gone lame on front feet. It started 3 weeks ago in 1 front leg no heat . but now in both and walking on his toes. He is on boxrest but no change. He is fed on ram and lamb mix with sugerbeet. He is 12 months old. Help please.

Have you checked for scald between his toes? Is there any smell from the foot to indicate footrot?
-
Have you looked at and smelt feet?
Most likely is scald (soreness between toes .... treated usually by antibiotic spray from vet (do all four feet)
If VERY smelly then it is footrot and may need an antibiotic injection.
google them and you will get pictures

AN's are prone to laminitis....especially if fed too well.
-
Sounds like laminitis, remove concentrates(hay only) give anti inflammitories eg metacam or loxicom, your vet will advise.

Hi thanks for all your help. I thought it was lami, we get it in one of our pony's. He is a lot better today only on hay for a few days .Any suggestions on what to feed him I no the superbest quick soak is good but not sure about hard feed.

Is he a working male or castrated? How old and still growing (as in less than 4 years old)?
-
Hi he has been working and he is 14 months old. He has been fed on ram and lamb mix with sugerbeet.thanks

Mmmmmhh... as he is both growing and working I would continue with the feed you have been giving him, but reduce the quantities. And hay, no haylage or Alfa. I think once they had laminitis he will always be prone to it. Also his feet will need careful cutting.

Thank you yes he will be prone to it now. We have a pony who also suffers with lamy and have learned how to control it. Looks like she will have a new friend to keep her company. Thanks for your help x
