Title: Shetland sheep needle sizes
Post by: NewLifeOnTheFarm on February 02, 2018, 01:39:03 pm
Asked my agri merchant for 1 inch 18g needles, and when I got home I realised they were 1/2inch. Grr. Will be giving dectomax at the weekend so its IM, presuming I need 1inch? 1/2 looks tiny, but then I am used to human lengths! Thanks.

My vet gave me a couple of syringes of Dectomax for a goat and he's given me a 1/2 inch needle for that. Its a subcutaneous injection so I can't see the need for 1 inch needle.

I usually order my needles online

According to label on bottle its def IM for sheep, but sub cut for cattle. Anyone given it to sheep ever given sub cut?

I checked via the internet and it def does say intramuscular for sheep. The written advice from my vet was subcutaneous though, which is how I administered it. As its unlicensed for goats maybe there is no recommended way to administer?
