Title: Help with prices please
Post by: Carroll on January 09, 2018, 12:05:31 pm
Hi I was wondering if you could help me I am trying to put a business plan together and need some info on selling prices as I can't seem to find any.
How much on average would a meat turkey sell for Xmas I know it varies on weight ECT
The same for the following animals:
Guineafowl, ducks, and meat chickens

I've found initial buying prices for my animals but not selling prices for meat many thanks x

Surely prices are based on cost of production of which no 2 systems are the same. So work out how much it costs to rear, kill and your time, and that’s your finished price.

Hmmmm, not necessarily!  We found that the cost of production plus our time ended up being significantly more than people were willing to pay, with the result that we now only rear poultry for our own consumption.

Carroll - have you visited farm shops nearby, or looked at any nationally which have websites (http://www.cocklakes.co.uk/product/cocklakes-traditional-cumbrian-turkeys/)? If not, that might be a useful exercise.
