Title: togetherness
Post by: langdon on August 01, 2010, 04:35:58 pm
we are hoping to put seven chickens together soon which we have hatched,
at the moment they are side by side in two little runs split up in 3's and 4.
one run has 1 cockerel and 3 hens.
the other has what we think to be one cockerel and two hens.
if we put these together in a bigger run will they get on allright as their is more girls than boys.

They should get along OK untill the males reach maturity and start fighting for dominance, 16<> weeks,

my two boys are living happily along side each other, my bantam male and the hens with chicks with no fighting as there are no females that are able to breed

I have 3 cockerals with the hens and they live together quite happily but they were all brought up together. You still will have a dominant cockeral bt feathers don't fly too much during most of the year but spring can be a bit sticky for a couple of weeks
