Title: Foxes and Piglets?
Post by: zeeteecee on July 31, 2010, 06:14:03 pm
Hi we have two 10wk old Kune Kune sows.
We would like to know if we have to lock them up at nights, or can they stay out, there are plenty of foxes pass through our property, and I know they visit the pig pen.  Until now we have locked them in at night, as they were so small.

The shed gets V.V.V. smelly if they are locked in, as they soil in there..... just wondered if the shed door could be left open?

Thank you!

You should have no problems with foxes and weaners - at 10 weeks they are well able to fend for themselves.

piglets squelling is their way of defending themselves so no need to lock them in

I saw my weaner supplier at a country show yesterday and she had 7 piglets killed by a fox only a few weeks ago - shocking!  I didn't even think that foxes would look at pigs! (They were very young though)
