Title: Pietrain
Post by: powispigs on July 30, 2010, 06:26:55 pm
Hi we breed British Lops but I am thinking of getting a pietrain to cross with my B Lop boar - firstly does anyone know of any where in Shropshire that breeds Pietrains and secondly any thoughts on the cross that would result, lastly is it true about stress badly affecting this breed???  :pig:

Petrain suffer from stress to a much higher degree than any other breed, stress related mortality, PSE pork at slaughter, leading to condemnation are the two most notable problems in the pure Petrain. An F1 Petrain gilt would probably be a better option.

no nothing at all, they are a great breed to keep pure. We have four lop girls we run with our boar. Just considering getting a pietrain x in and she would have to run with our lop boar too. We also got our saddleback in pig to a b lop boar - how does that cross work?
