Title: Free Loan of Large Black Boar
Post by: Draygor on December 30, 2017, 12:02:50 am
Hi all,

Brian  :pig: is a proven pedigree Large Black Boar (Wayland's Defender). He has served both my gilts, so now he is a vailable to hire.

I'm not looking for any payment as long as you can collect him, look after him for the duration and return him safe and well to me when he's done his job.

He is being advertised elsewhere, so if he gets hired out from another source, I will update this post.

Please contact me through this forum.

The greatest bio security risk to your pigs are other pigs so loaning a boar to different people and having him back is potentially a big security risk to your pigs.

There are times when an offer like yours is great for another smallholder who needs a boar and with our rarer lines it can be really helpful. However, check recipient holding can mange a boar, has suitable accommodation, good bio security and high standards first. Ideally, on return you should isolate your boar for three weeks.

Also make sure they understand his value if anything happens to him whilst he is away.

I think somewhere on TAS someone had loaned a tup out, allegedly died just before due back, I know of a valuable pedigree male goat who died while out on loan.
It's a great idea, save you feeding etc, and helpful to someone in need, but I'd be very careful.
