We have 8 acres of greenbelt .I know I know terrible opening line with regards to what im aiming for. My family have owned it for 10 years and used it for keeping horses and more recently for free range hens. My question is is there any examples of people who have successfully ran a business off this size and type of acreage and applied for planning for a temporary dwelling and progressing to a permanent home? I am willing keep my options totally open.
Or is it 100 % under any circumstances not going to happen?
My husband wants to sell and buy elsewhere that is not greenbelt but that would mean leaving our friends and family and community behind as this whole area is surrounded by green belt plus this land is being left to me in my parents will and it just feels wrong to get rid of it.
My parents do also have another 5 acres in a bit of a rough area, also greenbelt 3 or 4 miles away which they rent out for pony grazing I know this would take us over the 12.5 acres but I dont know if this would be of any use with planning with the distance between the land plus its not somewhere we could legitimately use due to livestock and equipment would probably get nicked.
The only land for sale nearby is 20 acres and £160,000 which is out of our budget.

Couldn't say 100% but quite unlikely even in a non green belt area ... so don't hold your breath!

Poultry (for eggs and possibly meat), maybe geese/turkeys - but probably not much else. You could do the figures for a small goat dairy - if you are close enough to a larger town/city you may be able to do raw milk sales, but would have to buy in most feed, and require permanent housing for the animals. You could do poultry from mobile houses, but no idea if it would give you a salary/income that would pacify the planners...

You don't say where in the country you are but down here in the Deep South there is a considerable tension between conservative planning and Conservative pressure to build more houses. Technically I believe your combined 12.5 acres might help but you need to show need to be on site to justify the build so will take some creative thinking. Really you need to talk to one of the specialist consultants who are geared up for to this.

It sounds like you are holding onto life and he is worrying about the means - talk to each other and get a balnance - knowing you will neer agree buy they are both mutually part of the arrangment.

Cneck RIDGDALE PERMACULTURE - guy called Richard Perkins. Check their website and YouTube channel.
They take 4 full time salaries from farming 7 acres quite far from cities - main enterprises are market garden, pastured poultry meat and eggs.
