Now that the pigs are gone i am wondering whether to get a few geese to rear on for christmas - I could do with a bit of advice. i will keep them in the pigs old compound which is quite secure and can shut them up at night. How many weeks does it take for them to reach table weight (so i can source the right age)? I dont think I want to kill and pluck at home (we do our own chickens but I think a goose is probably a bit too much) will I have to run the gauntlet of red tape and forms if i take them to be processed at the local slaughterers? My flock isnt registered as we are too small. Any goosey type info much apreciated!

Friends of ours raised geese for Christmas one year and sold them to friends and family. When it came to the big day and the plucking began, it became apparent that these were seriously slender geese. Our friends had to phone everyone and tell them Christmas was cancelled.
I know this doesn't really help, but it made us smile. In a sympathetic sort of way.
