Since my other posting today re when geese were ready for eating - there has been some upsetting developments - one of the 10week old goslings got tangled in electric poultry netting and strangled itself.
3-4 hours must have elapsed when I discovered it. It wasn't exactly cold - but that could be the sunshine.
What I want to know is is it fit to eat? - bearing in mind that I didn't bleed it straight away.
Will this affect the quality of the meat?
I have since hung it up and cut it's throat but very little blood flowed out
Any suggestions how to cook a large gosling (as opposed to a goose)

My father had a very large turkey unit and we often had turkey for dinner. They would put their heads out of one hole in the mesh and back in the next one along - the drawback of a long neck. I would be a bit wary if the gosling had lain outside in the sun for very long, but if it seems fresh then go for it ! Would cooking be any different to cooking a goose? Maybe a little less fatty? It should still roast ok. If it's not worth plucking you could skin it and make a casserole.

Thanks for the advice - skinning it was quite easy (for the first time!) and so was gutting it. Wev'e now put it in the freezer for a casarole later on. Good idea -it made it worth the effort!
It has quite a bit of meat on the thighs and breast but little else - looks very lean meat. It would be sinful not to have eaten it - having hatched them ourselves and cared for it up to now.
You're right about the netting - it had put its head in through one hole and back through another. I Think it might have died from the stress rather than suffocation - the netting was'nt that tight around its throat however if it was pulling back it would have become tight.
Anyway we'll let you know how it tastes later on!
