one of my girls has no more feathers on her back , she must be the boy's favourite ::) I do remember that a few folks even without cockerels had problems with their girls poor looks in the early summer, do they look any better now?? I am a bit concered about the open wounds, can not isolate any of them as mama is in the eglu prison with her chick... :chook: :&>

Dab some Tea Tree oil onto the wounds as it acts as an antisceptic, failing that, try covering the wounds in flour to stop the bleeding.

I would get her a good saddle, I have a few what are slightly padded which protects my girls ;) If you leave her with the cockerel with bare skin his nails or spurs could rip her skin. I've had a hen with a gash right down to the bone before. :(

where can I get a hen saddle?

yeh a saddle is deffo the best bet,we had to have one of our girls put down last year cause our boy was showing her way too much attention and she was getting the full brunt of his advances. The wounds became infected despite being sterilised.Hope it goes well for u

Most poultry places now do saddles but omlet do a really good padded camo. one which is very secure when on
and gives just that extra comfort if you have a hen with a tender sore back :)
