Hi,
I need lots of Muck to fertilise my sandy pasture, veg plot and garden. Is there anyone in the Hull \ York area who wants rid of thiers?
-
Boy do I wish you lived near me. I have tons of the stuff and I can't get rid of it...

Thats my thoughts exactly Helencus!

If you do get offered some remember to check that the animals which produced it have not been wormed with Ivermectin wormers. These persist in the manure for a lot longer than the claimed 6 months, preventing worms from composting it properly, then Ivermectins persist in your pasture/garden killing earthworms. We made that mistake when we first arrived on our holding - the new muck heap just sat there for about 3 years before it began to shrink. Fortunately we didn't spread it on the garden. When we investigated the heap there was not a single compost/tiger worm to be seen.
There is evidence that pastures grazed by animals wormed with Ivermectins have noticeably lower earthworm counts than other pastures.

I think I should talk to the farmer here after reading that. I have been digging the muck from his cows into my garden & a friends horse muck for weeks

Nicki we have lots of straw from the goats bedding that has been lying about a LONG time if any use to you?

Thanks for all your helpful replies. Especially info about the wormer. I have lots of straw thanks. The goat straw would be good for anyone with a heavy clay soil though.
