Title: Paedo cockerel
Post by: cairnhill on July 15, 2010, 07:01:49 pm
I have a young cross cockerel in with my Orpingtons (LF) and he is humping my black orp youngsters who are only 11 weeks old  :o  I thought hens had to have red combs to show they were sexually mature in order for the cockerels to try it on.   I am trying to rehome him but feel like stretching his neck.

;D :D  Hi Anna - maybe because he's young himself ?  The little ones won't like it as he will be too heavy.  I've noticed my Scots Grey cockerel chicks start practicing fighting very early, just a few weeks.  Most of my new chicks look to be cockerels inevitably - some neck stretching will be happening in a few months time once they start getting randy and argumentative  :yum: JJ

So how old is it when they get like that? Mine are 15 weeks and still seem to be ok. Only 1 crows a bit.

Just watched two of my young silkie cockerels having a set to - jumping over each others heads, rolling round the field.  Not good when you are white, and its such a wet day.  Then one of the silkie cockerels started a fight with an ex battery hen.  Dont know what that was all about.

The young cockerels will try their luck with anything in the field, but usually the Daddy steps forward and puts them in their place (and he takes over the action!)

The red comb thing cant be true because I have seen cockerals trying to mate with ducks

HI, I am looking for a cockeral to go with my hens.  I would take him, if you are within a reasonable distance from Dollar. Cheers Helen

Sorry Sheardale but no longer available and I am quite a distance from you anyway (35 miles North of Aberdeen) but thank you for the offer all the same.  :)

At lot of animals/birds etc (and humans) get sexualy active and will bonk anything until they are fully matured...i remember dogs I have owned and they do thier stuff on legs, pillows teddies but then, suddenly stop..just maturing...I am mature ::)
