In thier country of origin, figs produce a crop twice a year, in this country it is not hot enough so it is best to take the first crop off anyhow and wait for the second batch.

I know nothing about figs but curiosity got the better of me and I just had to read this thread ;D

I live in France and there are lots of fig trees here as was mentioned in Frieslandfilly's post they can have two crops a year we only one crop here though, as the first ones normally fall off. One year we got two crops and the first ones were huge. They like the heat and like a wall and south facing. The locals here all say that the roots have to be restricted and say you get more fruit like that ??? someone down the road planted one a couple of years ago in a big buried barrel. I just love fresh figs, Fig jam with vanilla pods is the dogs danglies :P

wonder what I'll do with my THREE then.........
we have a SFW and old barrells so think i might do that for next year when they are a wee bit bigger.
