Title: Galvanised drinkers and cider vinegar
Post by: PK on October 30, 2017, 02:36:30 pm
Is adding a small amount of cider vinegar to galvanised poultry drinkers likely to have a deleterious effect on the drinkers? (That is, the water container, not the poultry).

Unfortunately the acid in vinegar strips the zinc plating off, so not only do you wreck the drinker but I think the zinc taste may put them off drinking it or even be bad for their health? The zinc drinkers we bought initially had a label on them saying that they were unsuitable for using vinegar, so when we did use it we switched to plastic drinkers.

Yes, the acid will rot their teeth  ;)
