Title: Wet acidic soil

Hi, We (my better half and myself) are in the process of purchasing 2.5 acres of land with a large pond/small lake. We hope to eventually grow all or most of our food along with some livestock and hopefully build our home.
We know the land is far from practical being on a slight slope facing north with seriously wet acidic (5 to 6pH) soil.

Apart from the obvious "you must be mad buying this plot" can anyone advice us on how best to correct the soil.

Lime, drainage, muck.  Dig some holes to check for soil compaction - if compacted them mole plough or aerate, also reseed with deep rooting grasses/legumes to open up the soil structure.
Sounds like you are asking a lot from only 2.5 acres.  Good luck! :)

  One question .. You say 'hopefully' build your home .... have you investigated the likelihood of planning on this site before purchase?
