Title: Hen can't poop.
Post by: Bonzie on August 08, 2017, 03:20:13 pm
A four year old hen, has never laid, noticed yesterday she was straining to poop and all that is coming is the white part. Tried a warm water bath and massaged the vent and still no better and quite smelly, crop is soft and is eating and drinking......Any ideas!

Hmm .... if she's never laid there could be something unusual going on inside.

So just urates, no solids. But it's still white, not bright green? (If she hadn't eaten, she would squirt out bright green & white fluid, digestive acid).

How is she otherwise? Drinking? Active?

Gave her another warm bath this evening and just as i sat her in the basin she started to strain again so I decided to try and feel inside the vent with my little finger and sure enough i released what looked like calcified urates and then some regular poop. So left some newspaper under the perch tonite ......Fingers crossed!
