Decided to have a bonfire before the rain started. Put everything in a box, carried it to the garden, lit the incinerator, and came indoors. It then dawned on me that I had left my bag on top of the box .........unfortunately burnt to a cinder. Had to ring card companies, phone company etc. Will be without cards for about a week now. Its the phone I will miss. Being out on the farm, I always have my phone with me. And have lost all my contact numbers too.
What a nightmare!!
-
sorry to hear about you losing all your cards ...(at least you can't go spending loadsa money ...lol ) , and the mobile. I don't rely on a mobile ,and most of the area where I am , there is no signal anyway , but losing all your numbers is a pain . You can upload all your contacts from your mobile to your pc via data cable or bluetooth and the appropriate software . Not any use now really , as you have lost it all ... ::) , but for future reference it may be of use . If you really need a mobile with you , you can get cheap basic ones for less than £20 PAYG . One I saw recently ( forget where though ::) ) was £19.99 and had £10 worth of credit on the sim ...so the phone only cost £10 really !!!
Just think of all those phone calls you have now missed !!!! :o ::) ;D
cheers

:o :o :o
I can do those clever things as well Roxy.... like cutting through the power lead for my hedge trimmer whilst using it :-[
-
I think we have all done silly things at one time or another ......except my husband, who read me the riot act. Could not have happened at a worse time - with us about to move out of the farm, we will be relying on the mobiles instead of the landline.
Yes, I should have recorded the numbers elsewhere, but not being brilliant at technical things, uploading them to my computer would be beyond me anyway. Nothing to stop me writing them all down - I know I have some, so not all bad.
Anyway, new cards and phone on their way, hopefully, but it will take a few days all the same.
-
Ooh, the computer thing's a good idea. I'd hate to lose my mobile - for the numbers. I'm not attached to the phone itself.
What a bummer, Roxy. I can sympathise as it's the sort of thing I'd do, being all efficient and doing three things at once. :)
-
Hey Roxy hindsight is a brilliant thing. We all make mistakes and you are already at a stressful point in your life. Keep smiling, everything you lost can be replaced. :)
-
Oh dear, maybe the fresh start is what you need!! THings always happen when you are under stress or busy and I recon, subliminry messages told you to burn the lot ;)

http://www.netpcdirect.co.uk/mobile-phone-gadgets/sim_master.html
that is just one of the many different gadgets that allow you to upload information to your pc from your phone sim card. It is handy in that all you need do is slip in the sim card and upload all contact numbers etc and any sms messages you want to save , to your pc hard drive. It isn't much more complicated than entering information on a forum such as this , ie when you want to post a reply etc . All very straight forward and usually clear instructions are available with the unit.
Most mobile phones that I have had also allow this information to be uploaded via an RS232 cable (these you normally have to purchase for your particular phone !! ) .(This is a slightly out of date way of doing it now , and your phone may not have this facility) , it may offer the use of a usb connection cable ? . Software supplied with the phone on cd or dvd , will then make it a simple job to upload all your info , or even with more modern smartphones etc , things such as films , audio books etc . The later depends on the memory available on your particular mobile .
All this sounds very complicated and techy ... but in reality it is a very simple operation , much like uploading a picture to photobucket or flicker or even just to your pc , from your mobile phone camera or from a digital camera proper.
The slightly more modern mobiles also offer the use of bluetooth to upload information as well as downloading too your phone from the pc . The software to do this is usually on the cd/dvd once again , that came with the phone . If you don't get such a cd/dvd , then you can normally go to the website of the particular mobile and download the software from there .
The software usually, but not always ,self loads when you put the cd/dvd in the pc . Then if you are using an R232 cable , you go in manually to the appropriate program file and upload/download the information you want. If you have bluetooth though , the phone will mainly do all this on it's own , after the initial loading and setup of the software. It is then called synchronization , or some such similar phrase.
Most of this sort of stuff is more or less plug and play , ie you plug it in and it is recognized by the pc , and does more or less everything for you .
Failing all that , do as you have done already , and write the contact details down in a phone book ::) :o ;D aaaahhhhh the good ole days eh ? pen and paper.
cheers

FOrgot to add this bit, we moved to SOuth Lanarkshire and were looking at properties and arranged a view of what happend to be the one we bought and live in, my in laws came the same day and as the mum in law is a bit of a know all etc I really did not like the idea of them visitng with us, anyway, they set off to view the property in thier car and to meet us when we arrive, well, what a journey!!! fist there was a huge tail back and diversion for us as there was an accident after my in laws had passed that spot, so we rang to let them know, then we joined another route after filling up our VW camper with petrol and suddely we smelt strong petrol and lost all the power, gliding to a halt on a dul carrageway....I thought we were going to go on fire and we had 2 dogs in the back as well...lot's of other things happened but to cut a long story short, the fire brigade came out and had a bit of a laugh with us as it was only a clip off the pipe and only a little fuel spilt out!! we then re- arranged and visited the house very much later that night and on our own!!!! BUT, my phone had dropped out of the car in all this panic and it was the only phone we had as we moved to a place with no reception and no landline...I was after doing agency work and looking to buy the house so HAD to buy a cheaper one as soon as I could but...a fresh start..old contacts gone, new ones made!!!!! easy these days on internet, i USED INTERNET CAFES
-
Oh dear, Sandy, that sounded a traumatic day you had there!!!
I keep looking round for my phone. Use it for the time etc.
-
Roxy, sorry but I really had to laugh when I read your post. I thought these sort of things only happened to me! I hope you will see the funny side once you get over the trauma.I am a firm believer in the one door closes and another opens theory so something good could be just around the corner.

My phone holds all my life! ::) It is dead, due to water ingress into my wax jacket pocket on Sunday walking the dogs! My daughter has just been over with her old one but it only reads some of my sim so all my appointments are gone apart from my contacts. Have just ordered a sim and mini card reader so if anything happens to anyone else's phone near me, call and borrow the reader. Unfortunately some info was on the phone memory so that's completely lost(unless I get another Nokia in which case syncing with my PC might get it back), but at least I'll have what's on the memory card and the sim .. I have to get the same phone or better as it is also my digital camera - 6 mp (Nokia N95) The strange thing is exactly the same has happened to my pal in Sweden with the same make and model of phone - hers died after being watered in her Garden Centre - she was a bit free with the hosepipe when watering her plants at the end of Sunday! ::)
I'd be desperate if it had gone up in flames, so i hope you manage without yours, Roxy. It's just been one thing after another for you this year, hasn't it? ::) ::)
-
if you haven't tried already Annie , you could put the phone above a radiator . Near enough to supply heat but not close enough to melt . I have saved at least 2 mobile phones that way , and god knows how many times I have dried out digital watches that way . Even the watch I wear now is an analogue battery operated one , and it can get totally misted up and stop working . I just take the back off and leave it above a convector heater .. does the job every time.
Worth a go anyway...
cheers

Thanks, Russ, but I made a mistake right away - plugged it into the car charger on the way home because I knew it was running low on battery - so I fried it as well as soaking it. Will make sure my pocket flaps are outside not inside from now on! ::) It has sat in a bowl of rice for the last two days anyway, and still very deaded!
-
Oh nooooo!!!
I left purse in a phone box in the middle of town today, boy is was lucky that it was still there when i went scooting up the road to get it !!! Phew !!
-
Oh well it's not just me... I managed to put my phone recently through the wash (in the trouser pocket!), but fortunately the sim was still working. Phone itself was actually bent (it was one of the cheap MOTO ones, that you cannot get anymore except in dodgy shops...). But managed to get another cheap one on PAYG, as I actually very rarely use it, its more for when I break down in the car or suchlike...

I felt really guily when an elderly gentleman 85 came to stay with his daughter in our B&B, they had seperate rooms and he was recalling all his memories as he lived in a demolished property almost next door and also had a building firm so built lots of houses around here. I remember cleaning his bedroom and seeing 2 disposible cameras, I am sure they were in the bin but as there was nothing else in there I left them...I remember thinking all the money they had why had they not got a digital one!!! Anyway, next day there was no rubbish in t he bin and they had eaten some sandwiches etc so I expected rubbish but empty bin. After they left the daughter rang asking me to look around to see if it was in t he house, I never found it but still wonder if they were in the bin and the dad had throw them away somewhere..poor thing, his memories of all the places he visited gone!!!

You need a Samsung for to survive water damage,My sisters old phone (not the one digested by a horse) survived two hour long 90degree washed, dropped down the toilet and being dunked in the sea, and it still works to this day, even though it is in retirement.
-
I think mine was not just drowned but fried too. Just bought a replacement on Ebay and my son is going to have a look at the dead one at teh weekend to see if he can do anything with it then if not put it on Ebay too as water damaged - apparently they do sell as someone will try to mend it. So I may recoup some of the price.

I washed my daughters friends very cheap whatch many moons ago but it came out of a hot wash still working!!! amazing!!! I have washed many phones and they never seem to work properly after, I ended up with 2 phones that were similar, one of them 2 numbers would not work so you cuold recieve calls or ring existing saved numbers and the other phone's screen was broken!!!
-
When i first got with what was to become my eventual wife, we decided to take the kids down to Camber Sands beach for teh day, anyway had a lovely day and were going home and she said had i seen her phone? nope was my reply but i think you put it on the roof of the car back at the beach.................... you got it, around we turned and got right by the beach turn and there was her mobile phone in about 10 pieces up the road. Surprisingly the main body was ok and we got all the details off it!
2 years later we are going on holiday to Cornwall and when we arrive, she asks 'Have you seen my phone?' i said no the last time i saw it was on the roof of the car, dont tell me you have done it again?????' quick call to mum to have a look and ..................................... yes she had left it on the roof of the car which i then drove over with the car and the caravan for good measure!!!
No guesses what my final question is before we leave for holiday now!
-
not just me then.... ;)

my son saved up and bought a samseung U600. His pride and joy. A few weeks later it went through the washing machine. RIP phone :'( I bought one for myself Christmas before last. Last August we went to Alton Towers for the day and got soaked in the rain on the way back to the car. On the way back I gave him the phone to phone my husband.I found it the next day when it fell out of the washing machine! :'(
-
I wonder why they don't make them more ater proff, I am sure they can as I bet loads get washed and flused down the loo!! I had the habit of putting my mobile in my dressing gown pocket then putting the dressing gown to wash with them still in, did it 3 times with different phones!!!Also flushed some down the toilet as you bend over to inspect :-[

I've got some keys like that. They were for the first house we bought. They were all rusty so my friend who worked in a foundry put them through his machine and they came back all shiny.
-
THe problem is we need all 3 and we have no spare key, this house is 300 years old and a person who used to live her for 40years said she had some keys but never gave them to us!! We have ot's of internal locks and no keys!!!
-
I love the fact that 2 of em are on a ring :D surely that makes them too heavy to carry ;D ;D
Could use them for door stops when not in use 8)
What fantastic keys!
-
The seperate key is for the back door!!!! Hope we never loose them as we will not get into the front door!!
