Title: Soreness between cleats
Post by: moprabbit on July 27, 2017, 11:48:24 am
One of my ewes has had some soreness between her cleats on one front foot for sometime now. I've sprayed with Alamycin on a regular basis and have foot bathed her with zinc sulphate every 3 or 4 days and still can't seem to clear it up. She's not lame. I wondered if anyone  could suggest anything else I could try. Thank you.

If it's redness then it may be scald.  If the bottom of the clees becomes smelly and has a coating of cheesy gunk then it's turned into footrot.

If it's scald a jab of oxytetracycline (alamycin) antibiotics along with blue spray will help. But normally with scald or footrot they are noticeably lame

The treatment you've used would clear scald  , have a look at  interdigital fibroma

Thanks for the replies. I'll look that up Shep.I might try a jab of Alamycin Twizzel. I don't think there's any cheesy gunk on her sole as  I've been checking her hooves regularly,  but I'll check again. But she's definitely not lame. So I'll keep checking and try some of these ideas. Thank you

I had a bit of scald go through some ewes I bought last summer. Ended up treating them all with alamycin and blue spray all 4 feet. Since then touch wood not had any problems :-)

Twizzel, did you just give your ewes one shot of Alamycin  or a course and if so how long between the jabs? Thanks.

Whenever ours have had scald, it has always cleared up pretty quickly following either footbathing (if a few are affected), or blue 'cyclo' antibiotic spray if it's just one or two. If you try that first, you probably won't need to inject at all?

Sorry can't get any photos. I'm going to perservere with the foot bathing and Alamycin spray as there seemed to be some improvement today. Thanks to everyone who replied.
