Title: weaning question
Post by: Missy on July 19, 2017, 01:39:29 pm
I have moved my ewe lambs away from mums but how long before lambs/mums won't attempt to mother up again and feed?

We let the ewes naturally wean their ewe lambs, although we lamb in April and take away ram lambs in August, to prevent inbreeding. I would say a few months at least to completely break the bond and ofc once the ewes are completely dried off. When did they lamb?

I'd say after 2 weeks the ewe wouldn't let the lamb suckle, but I'd leave it a month just to make sure. I separated mine on Sunday and they've just stopped calling to each other
