Title: my 11 week old silkies (hens i hope)
Post by: gillian on August 10, 2008, 08:14:54 pm
I have 2 pet silkies that are 11 weeks old, abit of a mixture of blue and partridge, I was sold them as hens but i have heard from Rosemary that it is diff to sex them (got a bit paranoid now). Does anyone know what age they might start crowing or when silkies may start laying. I'm getting attached to them and really don't want to end up with males.

cheers

Hi there...

I had a silkie cross and he made squeeky crowing noises between the age of 6-8 weeks

My Legbar who is 16 weeks and a cockerel isn't making a cheep - well, he IS making a cheep but that's all! the Marans who are 4 weeks older are starting to crow now.

My year old cockerel still makes egg laying noises in harmony with the hens!
