Title: Hello
Post by: Glencairn on June 29, 2017, 07:54:38 pm
Hello, I signed up here because I'm interested in small woodlands. I was a member of the small woodlands owners group until the forum was closed, so ended up looking for somewhere else to do my research into broadleafs. All the best, Glencairn.   :tree:

Hi, welcome,
What do you mean small woodland and what research?
Quite a few people here have woodland, we had about 4acre planted about 5yr ago.

Hello and welcome  :) .

We have planted up a (very) small area of woodland and a load of hedges, but you probably already know far more on the subject than I do  :tree: :tree: :tree:

Whereabouts are you [member=171683]Glencairn[/member] ?

Thanks for the welcome.

The size of ground that I've found most rewarding tending to has been <20 acres, any more and there seems to be a tendency for conifers to be relied upon as a commercial crop. I've spent a bit of time in large blocks of Sitka spruce, and have found them to be pretty characterless places!

As to what research I simply enjoy reading about other peoples experiences in the countryside, if that aligns with my interest in small woodlands then all the better.

I'm in Mid-Nithsdale.

Hopefully when the times right/from November onwards, I'll be able to get some Alder and Oak planted.  :tree:
