Title: Lice
Post by: mulberry100 on July 03, 2010, 03:08:14 pm
I have just got my first 3 weaners. I noticed that they had sore looking ears, and quite a lot of lice running over them. After reading on here about Coopers spot on I spoke to my vet who said it was fine even tho not licensed. I have just treated them with 5ml. How long will it take the lice to go completely, and do I need to repeat this treatment. They have only been with us a for days, and so all their bedding is clean. Do I need to replace it all, or will the ones in the bedding die off too?
I wormed them when we got them, is there anything else I need to do?
Thanks

Sarah

Usually they go in 24 hours.

Since it lasts for a period, you do not need to do the bedding as it is recently new and you don't have other pigs.

You should be pleasantly surprised about how quick;y they clear up.

Good that you wormed, and no nothing more you need to be doing at this stage.

Pity the breeder let them go without dosing them first  :)

The breeder that I got mine from had not wormed either, as I was leaving I said when were they wormed? expecting him to say a few days ago or something like that and got a shock when he said that they do not !! worm theirs.
I WILL NOT be going back there for weaners again  :(
