Title: Ducklings and brooding
Post by: LisaBellamy on May 25, 2017, 10:20:08 am
A teacher friend has just hatched 2 Cayuge ducklings for me using an incubator at her school. They are thriving and  growing quickly- she has been using a small electric brooder. They will be coming back home next week when they'll be a week old. Ill obviously be keeping them in the house for a while but am trying to decide whether to get a similar brooder for them or simply to keep them in a warm space by the Aga or int the very warm boiler room. Ive only ever hatched ducklings underneath a mother hen before so a bit inexperienced. Im happy to buy a brooder but wondering whether it's really necessary at this stage. Any ideas? Thanks

Buy a brooder or a heat lamp, They'll need an additional heat source for the first 4 weeks.

Borrow the school's brooder for a few weeks. They surely won't be using it?
