Title: Lamb with bloody mouth
Post by: Daisys Mum on April 28, 2017, 08:23:10 pm
I went out to feed this afternoon and noticed one lamb lying with his mother with what looked like a bloody tongue hanging out, caught him up and on closer inspection I could see that his tongue was okay but he had a swollen face on one side and something bloody hanging from his mouth. We took him to the vet who cleaned his face up and removed what seemed to just be a big clot of blood, he's had painkiller and antibiotics and is now back with mum although we still have no idea what happened, my first thought was that it had been a dog but they are just behind the house and I'm sure I would have heard.

Do you have crows, rooks or ravens around?  They will try to rip out the tongue when the lamb bleats, as it will do with fright when one of those things is nearby.

Yes we do have loads of Rooks about but this is a big strong 4 week old Zwartble X tup lamb so I must admit I never thought of that!
