Just introduced a billy to my herd of female pygmy goats, however he seems more interested in the grazing than the ladies. He is staying close but no action yet. Is this usual?
Advice appreciated
Thanks
Jo

I don't know too much about pygmy goats but my normal sized goats won't now come into season until September ish - they then come into season until March.

Would not worry
He may start sniffing about
Come July August he will be showing a interest.
If they were in season it would of been different.
My latest Buck took a full twenty seconds to mate his first doe when i put him in, could not believe it

Thought goats were like sheep and breed in autumn .... but I'm no expert and a quick google says pigmy's can breed all year .... give him time.

Autumn/ winter is when they come into season. My goats earliest season was last week of August, latest season first week of March. But there is always exception to the rule, some people caught out with coming into season earlier. Could be more common in pygmys to come into season at different times of year though. Often the smell of a male can bring them into season a week later.
