Title: Is she pregnant? - we think so
Post by: Yberllan on February 14, 2017, 11:38:29 am
Hi,

My gorgeous GOS cross 'Dinky' was mated by our Tamworth on the 22nd October.  Not intentional but our fault as we thought we had a little more time to split out the boars in her pen.

I have calculated her being due anytime for 5th - 14th Feb.  She looks fit to burst , and this is her first litter.  I dont know if first timers go early/late or at any time they feel.

She is not distressed, although blatantly big and uncomfortable? - hubby is beginning to doubt she is even expecting?

Any advise appreciated.

Pigs I find are pretty much to the day. So today would the day.

Has she got milk? That would be pretty obvious by now.

Vulva will enlarge and soften, teats become larger and a distinct curved "drop" line show along her sides from the top of her back legs down to about two thirds along her belly.  If she's lying down you may be able to see the piglets kicking.  Have your farrowing kit ready!

Shes has 5 gorgeous piglets - smaller number than we are used to with the pedigree welsh but they are just gorgeous.  Unfortunately one but born asleep.

The Ginger Tamworth colour with black spots - too cute.

The Mum is MY baby and not part of the breeding programe etc so this feels so great.

I am sure that she is smiling when they are feeding.  As 'Dinky' and I are firm friends, I was able to pop the little one on the teat and get it feeding, as it seemed a little sleepy and I wanted to make sure that they were all feeding well - which they are now

we have a bit of a thing for ginger and black pigs here, given that we currently have an OSB boar and the last boars were berkshire and large black, our sows are OSB, Large Black, Berkshire, GOS and Tamworth.
At one point we had three litters of ginger and black piglets from very different crosses
