Hi all,
Have been lurking on selfsufficientish for a while but have just discovered TAS! Have already spotted a few people who seem to be very local so would be great to get to know some of you. My wife and I have been living on a smallholding nr Falkirk for a year now - we have 3 acres and some great buildings. I'm keen on keeping poultry and pigs and growing fruit and veg - maybe graduating onto goats, bees, maybe a cow, sheep, etc etc. Also keen to explore putting up a wind turbine to increase self sufficiency and provide an income.
I really need a mentor! So if there are any experienced smallholders anywhere near slamannan please can i ply you with wine/beer/food for your advice and help?
cheers, richard

Hi and welcome, we only have chickens and a pair of ducks at the moment, and of course my 4 dogs and a B&B!! We are in Clackmannan and we looked at a house, the old rectory, in Slamannan some 4 years ago, very similar place, must be all the M's...anyway I am sure you will get all the advice you need on here.

Hi and welcome from another bit of Clackmannan - and another fake smallholder. I'd love 3 acres to play with. Good luck and remember the only silly question is the one not asked! ;D

Hi Richard and welcome from South Lanarkshire, not so very far away  Will you be at the Highland Show? Several people from here will be so join us for a chat if you will be there on Friday.

Hi Richard,
We must only be a couple of miles from you. We live in between Slamannan and Avonbridge! We only have about an acre, but we keep dairy goats which we breed and show. We also have chickens, some for laying and some showing. Also some ducks, and then the usual cats and dogs etc. Oh and we are rearing 3 orphan lambs this year on the goats milk.
I am also interested in growing more veg, but lack a bit of time!
If you want to come and visit and see the animals and ask questions, see how we keep them, feel free. We are away at the Royal Highland show this week, so might be better to wait until after that, or you could come along to the show if you want. Our goats are entered under the surnames of Baisden, Fairley and Campbell.

Hello from me in South Lanarkshire too
We've got pigs (kune kunes at the moment, but hoping to get some fatteners soon ;)) and some chickens. The polytunnel is going up this year (allegedly !) and we're looking into the whole wind turbine thing too - here's a website for more info, although I believe there are a few companies in scotland doing the same thinghttp://www.solarventus-energy.co.uk/ (http://www.solarventus-energy.co.uk/)
Look forward to hearing more from you, Karen ;D

Hello,
I'm new to this and just joined, but live fairly close in Bathgate.
Live on a Farm (but not part of the farm family). My two pets lambs get Bed and breakfast on the farmers field (when not in the garden) but I hope to get more land to keep more sheepys on.
Look forward to chat!
