Title: Somewhere to live
Post by: The_Hawthorne_Pack on January 20, 2017, 02:32:47 pm
Does anyone out there in the Oxford area have any ideas about how we could live there?  We have had an offer of land to start a small poultry and game business in the Little Wittenam area, our business plan has been seen and provisionally approved, but we are not able to live on the land.  We have investigated living on the river or canal in a narrow boat, in the park homes and caravan sites in the area, but there doesn't seem to be anything available.  Housing is also impossibly expensive.
Any reasonable suggestions welcome.

There is a book called "field to farm" which explains a few routes through the planning process. only viable if you have at least 12.5 acres (some can be rented).

Have you looked at the prices of land plus house elsewhere?  You might find that it would work better for you to choose your area freely, not influenced by the land.  Many areas of Britain are much cheaper to live in than Oxfordshire.

As a book it must be nearing a best seller as that is the pipe dream of so many.
As a means to living on the land I find it gives a very theoretical view of how to achieve the dream.

Anyone on here actually achieved it by following the book's advice??
