Title: Chinese lanterns
Post by: Fleecewife on December 31, 2016, 12:28:14 pm
I see that at last some councils in Scotland are banning Chinese lanterns.  They are a fire hazard to buildings and crops, and a horrible danger to animals.  I hadn't thought about it before but apparently the wires can get chopped up when silage making, then are fed to cattle - doesn't bear thinking about. That's in addition to any picked up during grazing.

But still on TV we see romantic pictures of a skyful of lit lanterns being launched.

What's the position in the rest of Britain?

I think that i read somewhere that the councils have banned them in certain parts of wales.... Ceredigion included, I may be wrong though. Although pretty deadly to farm animals :(
