Title: Tupping, lambs and going on holiday???
Post by: Jon Feather on December 16, 2016, 06:52:32 pm
I hope you can give me the benefit of your opinion.

We put our new ram (his first year) in on the 30-10-16 and he has been in with our 10 ewes ever since.

Will we be safe to book a holiday for the 6th May next year?  I'm hoping we will have lambed by then.

He doesn't seem to be showing any great interest in the back ends of any of the ewes now.

Do you mean safe - as in will they all have lambed? Perhaps if you sure that all ewes were tupped before 7th December.  But even then they can be late, and even if they have all lambed there can be a lot of care required until lambs are well grown. You may have to bottle feed, and you will have to look out for mastitis and all sorts of ailments. Personally I couldn't go away at that time unless I had someone that was experienced and that I trusted explicitly!

You'll be fine ---go for it

There's more to life than sheep (apparently)
