Ooohh Fizzgig! Well done! How exciting - and unexpected! Good luck, I hope it works out well for you. I am jealous though... :P

very exciting! ...but could you leave the kiddies?! thats always the thing, as well as the ££.
(quite jealous too, but probably have enough to keep me busy already!)

You must have been brimming with confidence and just what they needed to offer you a job like that!! go for it!!!
Must be a common thread on this forum for people to work in social care type jobs, I too used to work with children with challenging behaviour, loved it a lot of the time but now I feel far too vulnerable!! I also love animals and in a Harry Hill moment I would have to fight it out, Children? or Animals? I love Children but now I think animals win as humans are too intelligent for me now!!!

Kath and I dragged FIVE up what we think the raght and proper way to respect others at all times etc; but now when told by someone " Oh I love children" My reply is "Fried or boilt". Next to animals they have more rights than me and look where its got us.

Well, if that were me, and the job was ok, and the money not bad, I would take it!!
I am afraid it it came to a job with children or one with animals ......it would be the animals.!!!

Now this isn't a dig as Roxy AT ALL as I kind of feel the same but isn't a bit sad that we like animals better than the young of our own species? I wonder if this contributes to many of the ills of our society - that we don't really like kids very much? I know some of them are difficult but isn't there a saying about how it takes a community to raise children well? Our youth clubs are closing because they can't get volunteers, but everyone complains that there's nothing for the kids to do even though it's always someone elses's job to sort it out.
I'm not taking any moral high ground here - it's just a musing.

i am a kid and prefer animals, half the time you can get a better conversation, they don't argue(much), and they listen to you(well atleast act like they are ;) )
that we don't really like kids very much
Sometimes it's hard to like them, the amount of problems that they cause, vandalism, petty theft, disturbance, language that they use.

I can see why people would not want to work with other peoples kids for nothing if they were going to have to tolerate the levels of problems that you get.
Iin a way its the kids fault they loose privaleges, they seem to expect to get everything for nothing, yet give nothing back

just to be a bit clearer when i say challenging the kids i work with are all at the severe end of the autistic spectrum so any challenging behavior that they display isnt just being naughty its an inability to cope with what ever the situation is no fault of their own and i love my job and the kids dearly but i hate the management (seems to be the same in health and social care throughout) but i know my kids well and it would be very hard on the kids if i went (not blowin my own trumpet but i know them and they know me) but to weigh it up with the oppertunity of a life time bringing children and animals together is dream come true it all just boils down to weather i can get buy on what hes offering and what my options are ???
