Title: My sheep won't eat
Post by: mocnarf on December 10, 2016, 01:40:53 am
I have a 10 month old Katidin Hair Sheep (ewe) that won't eat. It hasn't eaton in 2 days.  Even offered it's favorite treat it has no interest in eating. It seems healthy otherwise. No elevated temperature.  I am concerned.  What do you suggest I do to help her?

Only just seen your post so I hope by now your ewe has started eating again. If she's still poorly you need the vet as soon as possible.

I, too, have only just seen this and hope you consulted the vet asap.  Inappetance is very often a flag for a serious problem at this time of year.

How odd, I had never heard of a Katidin Hair sheep before this morning, now I've come across them twice. Mocnarf, I hope your little ewe does well.

I had heard of katahdins but never seen even a picture until today - very unusual to my eyes, being used to sheep with lots of wool.  I had seen a Barbados Blackbelly, which is also a hair sheep, but in a hot climate wool could be a drawback.

[member=166711]mocnarf[/member] has there been any progress with your ewe?  What did the vet think?  :fc:

I've had Katahdins and used them in a breeding program---hardy maternal ewes
Good luck with getting it to feed

I am happy to report the sheep are eating again.  They didn't eat for 4 days then began eating again. Now they are eating normally. Other than giving them belly messages, I didn't do anything.  Don't know the cause but I think they may have eaten some vegistation that they shouldn't.  They are a bit like goats and eat most anything.  Tree bark, fir and cedar tree leaves and branches just about any kind of brush.  I think they may have eaten some Holly berries.
