Same as Langdon our last 3 went this morning, feel very very happy seeing them go in a longside the pink jelly pigs (as my butcher calls them), did feel a little strange this morning as it was the last 3 and we have reached the end.........

Make some faggots with Heart & Liver they are fantastic and i also made my OH some pate with some of the liver too, which went down a treat and funnily enough the first thing we ate was chops! man alive they were awesome

Did your pigs have names, Langdon?  Did you not get a little bit attached to them?  Have you sold some of the pork, or keeping all for yourself?!!!
I always think if something has a name, thats it, it ends up like a pet.

No names for mine either and when i went down last night with Jess i said 'thats it they are off for sausages tomorrow, so she said 'bye bye pig-a-ligs see you when you are sausages!' Priceless seeing as she is only 3  :o

A lot braver than me your little girl.  I would have been blubbering at saying goodbye.  Although, I do think children are a lot more matter of fact about such matters.  Us adults can be a little soppy at times.  Obviously not Langdon though :D

Congrats  :D

Our 4 GOS boars are 5 months old now - the intention is to send the biggest 2 to slaughter at 6 months, then the other 2 a month or so later, hopefully for more bacon oriented cuts.
I have named the boys - Cleanface, Headspot, Earring and Teardrop - but that doesn't change the fact the only reason they are with us is for meat  :) But I find it useful to be able to identify the boys and keep measurement records.

How did you mark the pigs? Tags or slapmarks?
Thanks
Tish

we used ear tags and only put them in this morning before setting off.
we decided this cos we didnt want them been ripped out when play fighting or really
going for it!!
we had an inspection on the holding the other day and the inspector asked where they were, when i expained as i have to you he was ok
with it.
they are very easy to apply and the slaughter houses to my understanding prefer them as they can withstand procedure really well.
oh ya we used metal ones.
hope this helps ;)
