Hi, I am looking to contact Dale armstrong to scan my ewes in december. failing that I need a new scanning person. I have used Dale for several years now but when I came to contact him this time his number is not recognised.

i too am looking for someone in december but only have 4 ewes i am in leeds
can anyone advise me on the usual cost

If your neighbours can't recommend one there's usually an ad. or two on the noticeboard at the local livestock market. Ours charges per life scanned or a basic callout charge, whichever is the lower. I certainly think it's worth doing - it allows targeted feeding of multiples and thin ewes and saves time spent hanging around in case there's a twin on the way.

am i right in saying they can only detect number of lambs and not the date due
i already know when they are dueish but would be good to confirm my thoughs
this is first time so just finding feedback

Broadly, yes, but depends on how pregnant they are. Our Southdowns have to be scanned quite early or they don't fit in the scanning crate. Our scanner can also tell if they're developing properly - he has occasionally seen twins but sounded a note of caution about one of them. Sure enough, only a single has subsequently been born.
