Just sold the last of my laying hens today at auction, duck pens empty and all very calm and quiet. Feels very funny after a hectic spring and summer. Looking forward to spring already!

I know how you feel. Same with me with lambing, once all the lambs are born, reared and sent off to market there is sort of an empty feeling and you can't wait to do it all again, although the rest is quite a nice thing. I wouldn't be without my animals, whether it be calving/lambing I love it all! :) BTW what breeds do you rear, out of curiosity ;)

're breeds wise, I have llyn and mule sheep, emden geese, hybrid cross hens and up until today black rocks, warrens, and Campbell/shetland ducks. Also got buff orpingtons and sussex bantams

Sounds brill! :) I am hoping to extend my flock of hens in time. I was thinking of pure breeds but its a cse of which breed anf how many.

You'll find a plethora of views on breeds on here, that's for sure. We presently breed L/F Laced Wyandottes, Speckled Sussex, Jersey Giants and Dorkings. We were also sent some Ayam Cemani eggs by mistake this year and the breeder told us not to return them through the postal system, so we now have a pair of those.
