Hiya, i dont start many threads but though i would start a breed thread, what breeds make you tick ?
We have Section As, Bs, and Ds and a Miniature Shetland and looking to get a really good Section C mare at some point.
-
I don't have any horses at the moment :'( (and I'm not really horsey so excuse my lack of knowledge ;) ;D) But when I was younger we had a couple of shetlands and a welsh mountain pony. The shetland mare was a lovely placid wee thing (up til the farrier walked into the field then she turned into a bucking bronco - she was prone to laminitus :() the gelding was a bit bolshier (my poor wee granny had to get stitches in her hand after he decided he was having her thumb one day !) and the welsh mountain pony was the most gorgeous pony I've ever seen - markings like black beauty, just not as big and muscley, but she was a bugger for catching and always seemed to be able to get her head collar off !
-
Two Dales
Love the hairys nice and chunky like me lol ;D I much prefer the heavier breeds I'm quite partial to a nice coloured cob too
-
cobs are my 'thing'..i just love their solidness (is that a real word?) and their natures. you always know where you are with a cob....usually dead slow or stop though! Over the years we've had: clydesdales, shetlands; TB's (big mistake!); section B; welsh draft x TB (great jumping mare).....currently have 2 cobs (one welsh section D & one gypsy show cob, one old section B & just sold a teeny black shetland mare)
couldnt be without my horses
-
42 dales, some tbs and a cob, lol
-
8 shetlands
-
2 thoroughbreds (stupid i no!) 2 New Forest ponys and a Welsh Section A (being sold tho), oh and a foal at foot of the tbred mare= sports horse ???
Im also a very big fan of natives!!!!
I live with the inlaws and we keep all the horses together so there is also, 2 more section A's, a section B, a shetland, a fell, 2 coloured fillys, a section d x irishdraught and a section d x tbred, and an arab nearly forgot him
-
NLL are you sure the numbers haven't changed since we counted at the begining of May lol ;D
-
My new girl is an 16hh Irish Sports Horse (3/4 tb with a dash of conemarra) and the old girl is a 14.2hh conemarra x tb, had an arab x welsh cob till Feb when he was put down due to colic....:(

We have 2 Bs, 13 As and 6 Ds :)
-
Hello Daisy and NLL.
Fancy seeing you two on here!
I have 3 Dales ponies, 1 Dales x Fell, a Fell mare and a Fell gelding, an ID mare and a Dartmoor x Shetland. Have to say the Dales are my favourite, but cannot fault the ID for her kind temperament.
-
Come then everyone show us your pics too!
heres a few of mine :) http://s918.photobucket.com/albums/ad30/daniellestocks/Animals/
im so proud of my horses they are lovely, and feel very priviliged to have them!

Very Nice ;)
-
Stunning Dales! I have an oversized Highland and a Shetland on the way.
-
We have a shire/tb x Hanovarian who at 17.1hh and white as snow is a gentle giant, a tb x connemara, her 2yr old son out of a sec D who is for
sale a sec A mare who has been out on loan for the last 3 years. She will be sold at the end of the summer when her present rider has outgrown
her I love sec A's annd a minature shetland.
-
Hey NLL Dont i know you from somewhere else ;) I love your grey mare
-
We have 2 dun connemaras, a little palomino arab/ welsh, welsh section B and our coloured pony is a out of a quantock mare by an arab stallion/ I love the photos of the Dales they are stunning!! I would love a cob for myself but need to scale down on the kids ponies first and there is no chance of that yet.
http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?pid=4805358&id=702917165
These are 3 of my girls on their ponies. Charlotte on the dun also has a 16.2 Hanovarian mare who foaled last year. mind you she is a bit of a lunatic and not my cup of tea at all!
-
We have 2 coloured cobs who are just a dream,a 2 year old Black cob who is a monkey! and a hackney x conermarra mare who is out on loan.
-
hellybee, i think you know my daughter and her grey mare Annie
-
Ahhh yes, i thought you may have been your Duaghter lol, yes i really like Annies, she is so eyecatching :)
-
I have 5 standard Shetlands, all boys now as given up breeding and a cob mare who is out on loan. I bred her myself so could not bare to sell her when I could no longer ride due to a back problem. She and I had so much fun together often beating my friends on there so called fancy horses, give me a cob any day ;D :horse:
-
We have coloured horses and ponies here.
Our brood mare is piebald, 14.2hh, 11yr old, and has had two foals to date. Her first (a colt, now gelded) is by a baroque type Freisian stallion. He's a 3yr old now, and piebald. I'll take some pics to post later.
Her second, a filly, is by a Fell pony stallion. She is a 2yr old now. Here are pics taken last night. (http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg12/AengusOg/AlloffphoneJune10137.jpg)
We also have a Connemara/cob gelding, 11yr old, 14.3hh, who is a riding horse for my wife.(http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg12/AengusOg/Alloffphone268.jpg)
Also we have Dizzy Rascal who I've posted pics of already.
Sorry about the size of the pics...don't know how to do it any other way. :-[
-
i do like your conemara/cob AengusOg
-
Nice horses you have. That Connie has the type of legs I like to see on a pony - and plenty of feather.
-
;D He looks slightly odd in that pic as his mane looks as if it has been plaited and his legs left rough, but he'd been bathed and his mane was behaving itself that day and lying on his off side.
He looks great when he is fit. My wife does endurance pleasure rides with him. In that pic he was watching the first horses away.
-
Mongrel - 10.3hh coloured pony - blue and white. Sec A cross something probably. Built like a minature cart horse, but with a neat head.
-
A highland pony mare approx 20 years old, and a very naughty year old miniature shetland filly named Gloria.
-
TB's, BRP's and a Dartmoor ;D
-
Where are all the pics? ;D

I frequent Whiteblazes, almost everyday!
I have 4 at the moment, Prince, Standardbred TB, expacer, he is on loan til next June whilst his mum gets on with having a baby and getting wed. He isnt my type at all but is no problem to look after and he has given my other 3 a bit of sometihng to think about in the herd.
Elma, she is a 16.2 Cleveland Bay, had a hard life as a hunter hirling then was a nanny for her previous owners youngsters, she is now with us and we are trying to build her muscle up to get her into work. As she has been a law unto herself for about 4 years she can have attitude and when she doesnt want to work she lets you know, but with the walking out for physio she is learning that actually, maybe she isnt the boss!
Isaac, (Absolom Isaiah) 3yo piebald cob, had him since he was 6 months old and am hoping to get him started with longreining later this year once his teeth have settled a bit.
Then there is Odinn, my Pride and Joy, 14.2 Dales Type, came from Appleby. Ride and Drive although he hadnt done much riding when I got him (I discovered!) He was lame from March til beginning of June, not sure what happened but think he had taken a HUGE knock, he's back in work now and am desperatley trying to get him fit for driving so I can enjoy the summer from my trap. Although today is an off day, its pouring down and blowing a gale.
Some Pics for you.

Lovely horses you have !!!
-
Wow a great selection everyone. I have an arab, a Connemara X Sele Francais, 2 Icelandics, Ollie a little Shetland who is a ball of muscle and can be driven for a couple of hours and barely gets warmed up and a Baudet de Poutou a 15:2 hh MASSIVE donkey (google it) and they all drive chalk and cheese the lot!
-
a 16.2tbx shire mare who has recently foaled to an imported 15.2 ish (i haven't measured him since he came over as a yearling)french trotter, i also own. An imported Trait breton stallion 16hh; a 16.3 CB who drives, 17.3 sports horse eventer, 15.2 cob R&D - in foal, bigget horse I owned was an 18.2 ID showjumper, sired by king of diamonds and a 16.2hh ex champion racing trotter, some pics of some of them ;D
it won't let me put too many pics on so i've popped on a coulpe - the foal was only a few hours old in the photo so still very wobbly legged ::) ;D
thought i'd share with a photo of sydneys legs! we are still amazed that his mum managed to carry and deliver without problems a foal with such long legs he must have been curled up like a ball of string! :D
-
Sydney and his mum are gorgeous. I would love a Shire. Someone comes to our driving club with theirs, and I was lucky enough to have a ride on him ......struggled to get on, and worse getting off, so high up. Made my 16hh ID mare look small even :D Do you do much driving? We have some driving ponies among our gang

not as much as i like, we are hoping to do a few weddings soon, we have an original vis et vis carriage and we hopefully have a driving pair (they both drive and are workign together atm) so watch thsi space :D
-
Very nice! Always a demand for carriages for weddings. We have a friend with Haflingers, and he does weddings with a team of 4 over in Tameside. Impressive looking set up he has. We do weddings and parties etc. for friends. No worries getting matched pairs as our Dales are black and similar sized. Do mainly driving shows with our exercise carriage and cone driving. OH wants to get into cross country ....stopped driving myself due to a couple of nasty carriage accidents, but will go on as groom, and tootle about driving our pony on the lanes.
Value my life nowadays, and do risk assesments before agreeing to do anything remotely dangerous :)
-
I think we need a horse driving section. ;D
-
I second that Lazybee, maybe we could have a section for working horses and driving horses?
I work at the Carriage Driving Centre near me, we do weddings, driving for the disabled, lessons, kids parties, carriage hires for the hotel nearby, carriages drives for older members of our community to 'bring back memories', we collect Father Christmas to take him to the grotto because 'the Reindeer struggle when the snow runs out!' I love it, its great!
-
My love is the Gypsy Cob .. I have one called Arthur (aka the Moose) He is a ride and drive and last year I got him a 6 seater wagonette unfortunately he had a bit of a bad experience involving a motorbike so we are having to rebuild his confidence
here is my boy

He's lovely - fabulous mane!
-
Love the "tash" ;D
-
hehe thanks .. he is such a character and gives the best kisses when asked .. the pic was taken just after I took his main out of plats so it got the lovely wavey look ... his mane and tail are sooooo long but he looks stunning with it (i'm bias) lol
Sam
-
Gorgeous isn't he? I am smiliing at the tash. One of my Dales has one, but not very becoming on a mare!!
-
We have a thoroughbred who never raced. Actually, he's 8 now, and has done bug..r all, cept eat.
Also have a irish sports horse who does very little too!
-
At the moment we have 2 Bulgarian ponies a 13.3hh palomino and 14.2hh bay mare, no pedigrees but both completely different. One is supposed to be from russian stock. Both drive, although the palomino mare is most definitely better and I did back the bay mare last year then turned her away and still not got round to doing anything with her :(
Also a sweet looking but rather devious donkey named Maggie who is nothing more than a pet these days but is broken to drive. She's currently doing lawnmower duties as our strimmers were stolen last week.
Before we moved to Bulgaria we had a trotter x native. An arab x hackney (who was a right tw*t), a Friesian x TB and a welsh section B who is still competing at age 30! We made the decision to sell up rather than transport them 2500 miles and I still miss my friesian x tb dreadfully. He was my perfect horse. We'd owned 3 of them from foals and had the welshy for 10 years.
Must admit I prefer cob types although I've ridden most things. Cobs always make me feel more secure.

Heres my 2

-
I bet the Dales Friesian mare is nice. I was tempted at one time to have a Friesian horse for driving, but have kept with the Dales.
-
This is my 4yr old half-bred Friesian. Home-bred out of my own piebald mare, he's 15hh.
This is his dam. 12yr old, by Artistic Image (Fiona Stewart's stallion). She's 14.2hh.

Very smart looking ;D
-
I have a small Highland pony stud - currently 17 of them :o so have stopped breeding for a while til the youngstock are sold and am missing the foals but winter hay bills and 17 x farrier, wormer and vaccination bills at a time is not something I want to increase on right now! I did have 20 at the start of the year so am moving in the right direction and one more is spoken for just waiting for the money to come through, but I think 8 would be a good number to aim for ;)
I know a couple of folk who use Highlands for forestry work and others who use them for gathering sheep or other working roles but mine are just breeding stock as I've not had the health and fitness to ride for a couple of years now. I do think about driving and/or forestry/farmwork with them at some point but not where I am right now..
-
I'm a Highland Pony breeder too; currently 24 of them. I've sold six (including two stallions) this year tho; trying to cut down a bit. This is a late foal, born end of August; Ellister Islay Harvester.

Hi ellied - only just realized this is you ;D How is Dancer doing ?
-
Hi Jane, I guessed janeislay was you even before I saw the photos ;)
I just moved the girls to new grass this afternoon so Dancer is very happy at the mo thanks :) Fingers crossed there's no sign of her problems returning so far and she looks pretty much as a Highland mare should for the time of year, but I won't be completely happy until she's maintaining weight on hay (and feeds if need be) without symptoms.. :hshoe:
Thanks for asking - and Sparks is looking better and better too as she matures too :)

I loved your last photo of Sparky; bet she looks as good as River by the time she's a 3yo. Sorry to hear about your horrendous firework incident. Any news of you finding a new place ?
-
Nope, sadly now I don't have a day job with a regular salary I can't get a domestic mortgage so am a bit stuck as I can't sell this place and rent for myself and 24 misc animals until I find somewhere that costs less than my equity ??? Several folk said they were interested in this place but whether they'll be still looking by the time I find somewhere I don't know. I could sell the 10 acre holding and keep the lease on the hill which would accommodate most of the ponies bar entires and Islay, but cats, stallion and her houdini-ness aren't quite so easy :-\
I am probably here til spring but am looking for land to buy where I might be able to get a section 75 house at some point and at least a caravan if not a log cabin meantime ;) And building up a few skills and some more experience while I wait ;)
