Have got sooooo many apples this year and running out of jars for juice.... thinking of making dried apple rings (one of my favourite winter desserts), any recommendations for dehydrators?
I have used the oven before for chillies and peppers (sadly no bumper crop of those this year...), but our electricity bill is already high enough...

Hi Anke
I have a L'equip filter pro dehydrator that I bought a couple of years ago and really like. Use if for veg, fruit and just recently started using it for making jerky for the dog from the pigs' lungs. Good and controllable with thermostat, only drawback I can see is the thermostat is measured in Fahrenheit although as lots of stuff re dehydrators on the internet is from the US maybe not such a problem. I think it uses much, much less power than having the oven on. Made some really nice dried apple rings earlier this year and they've kept beautifully. I would recommend peeling them and treating with citric acid solution before drying.

Thanks, will look into it, I like the rectangular design - so much more space-saving!

I just bought one, fruit and veg so far but liver for dog treats in at the moment. All come out brilliant! It's a round one though. Italian make Beren I think
