As the subject box says really. It is for an average sized 7 month old GOS gilt. Any rough ideas would be great thanks.

Hi Miri nice to see you back. :) A lot depends on your area as to how much people will pay. As a rough guide, work out how much they cost you to get back as butchered carcasses, include any packaging, dont forget water, straw, diesel for collecting feed etc.
You should cover the costs of at least 2 pigs from selling one butchered carcass.

Hi Miri,
I got £240 for a whole pig including sausages and £140 a half, they went wild and sold out in 2 weeks before we had even took delivery of our weaners!!

now that's really interesting cos my next pig venture needs to be one that 'costs' less than our first endeavours. So if i get 3 pigs and sell one of them (presumably butchered and packaged), then i should be able to cover the costs of the other two?

Thats the rule of thumb anyway. Over here it really pays to shop around for pig food. Same feed company 1 friend was paying 10.60 (euros) for a 25 k. bag, another 6.10 We buy in bulk works out at 5 euros per 25 bag.

exactly egglady - we worked it out on a 2:1 ratio and ended up getting 7 pigs, ok we sold 6 of them in the end and we made a tidy £450 profit and half each for the freezer. this based on my sale prices in the post before

That is really well done. :)
