I discovered a lump in our ponies neck/throat and had the vet out today.. Seems he has a tumor in his thyroid gland. Not sure if it's cancer so the vet has taken a fluid sample from it in the hopes there are enough cells in it to tell. If not he will need a biopsy.. She's hopeful it's benign as he is fit and well otherwise but if not she tells me he will go down hill within weeks and there is nothing they can do.. He's a grumpy old sod but I love him.. I will be devastated if we have to put him down. Please god it's benign.. :'(
-
I do hope its benign. How old is the horse?
I was only thinking the other day, us humans are told cancers can be caused by all sorts of things, we eat, use etc. But our animals are not eating or using these "dangerous" things, yet I still hear of them getting cancer, dogs especially.
Anyway, fingers crossed for your horse, that its not cancer.
-
hope its ok.
-
Good luck with that.
-
Thanks all. He's in his 20s not quite sure exactly he was sold as 13 3 yrs ago but he isn't he's older. Did have him vetted at the time but wasn't mentioned. Still not bothered just want him to be ok. He's a grouch but we love him and my horse will be devastated without his companion. Gottabe positive and pray for the best !

Thanks everyone. On a positive note he is still fit and well with no sign of illness just a big lump so chances are he will be ok.. Should know Tuesday.. Here's hoping.
-
will keep fingers crossed for Tuesday - it'll be a long weekend i'd imagine xx
-
Yes it will. Trying to keep busy and stay positive..best as I can anyway
-
Hoping for the best but the tumor seems to be twice the size today.. That's not a good sign..
-
oh dear, however best to try not to worry as it will just feed to your boy and make him anxious too
-
thinking about you and your old horse today, any news
-
Thanks. No news yet but it's bank holiday so don't expect any til tomorrow at the earliest. He still seems fit and well so I can only hope .
-
sending lots of hugs and love from Fife for tomorrow. I'm guessing if good wishes and loving thoughts alone could heal your boy, he'd be dancing around his field by now! xx
-
Thanks egglady, yes if love and wishes were enough he would. I just hope we do find put tomorrow, vet said she may not have got enough cells to know for sure..
-
Oh God Helencus, what a horrible wait for you. Wishing you all the best for the results tomorrow. Give the old man a hug from me.
-
Thanks Miri.

Thinking of you
-
The best news.. It's NOT cancer!! I thought it had grown in days but the vet said it was the size of an orange when she examined him so no bigger. Hopefully he won't have any difficulties from it but only time will tell. Best thing is it isn't cancer so he may still enjoy some more twilight years. So relievedthanks all for ypur messages of support.
-
Horray!! will the vet operate anyway?
what a relief for you...
-
Yipee brilliant news.
-
I know I'm so relieved. They're not going to do anything as he isn't ill so and with him being old they think it's best to leave well alone. Only down side is his insurance is due for renewal in 2 weeks so I'm pretty sure they won't insure him now so if he needs anything done in the future cost will become an issue. Still on the positive side he may live out his years with no problems.
-
been trying to get to the puta for hours but hubby's mum been here for tea - only just left anddidnt even tidy up - just had to come on here to find out how things are! so so so so so so so relieved for you Helencus! best news all day xx
-
Thanks egglady been a great day. Good news re Sam and the builders came to start the stable yard.
-
Now that is good news
-
What a relief for you that its not cancer. Sometimes these lumps are best left alone. I know our old dog had a big one on her chest, and the vet said leave it. She lived a good number of years with it, and just died of old age.
Hopefully your horse will live many more years with no problem too.
