Title: Abattoir NE Scotland
Post by: NewLifeOnTheFarm on September 15, 2016, 03:56:18 pm
Hi all, in my initial research into sheep keeping, we intended to use Millers at Grantown for our lambs for the freezer. I just heard they will no longer be doing sheep privately. Any recommendations of where else to use and of they have a butcherer service? We are in Huntly. Thanks.

Thanks, that's a fair journey! What are the arrangements like for butchery/delivery etc?

Yes, Munro's in Dingwall butcher too. Can't comment on delivery though as we pick up (it's only an hour away). You could check if any of your local butchers pick up from Dingwall  - Munro's might be able to tell you.

They've delivered back to us, just outside Banff. Very reasonable delivery charges and can meet you somewhere convenient.

They have facilities to take the animals in on a Sunday morning and keep them until they slaughter them on the Tuesday. We get them to do the butchery and it is delivered back to us - we meet the driver at a service station down on the main road. They treat the animals nicely and I've been very pleased with the service.

Except goats! We have taken sheep and pigs on a Sunday which is very convenient, but they won't take goats as they have had escapees in the past, so goats have to be admitted on the day, which I believe is a Tuesday at the moment.
