We took our first 4 lambs to the butcher/abattoir this morning. A friend has asked to buy one which is fine, she has given me her choice of how she wants it cut etc. but I don't know how much to charge her.
If you look at various websites the price per kg for a whole lamb seems to vary considerably, I don't want to be too cheap neither too dear. Was thinking of saying £7.95 p/kg thinking the lamb will weigh about 17kgs which would be £135.15 Does that sound about right????
Please advise :innocent:
Thanks
Louise

How big is the lamb and what breed/weight is it?

17kg sounds quite large to me (are yours very large breeds Louise?) . Make it £8 a Kg for friends seems about right to me. (maybe a little more if vac packed? We charge about £8.50-9 per Kg (rounded to nearest £5)
Check this website for up to date retails prices for cuts (all cuts are over £8/Kg)

I've just charged a friend £100 for a 16month Heb hogget, 18kgs cold, butchered and vacuum packed. I would normally charge £120 for that if it was not to a friend. I don't charge per kg as it gets quite complicated, taking into consideration your slaughter and butchering costs, plus the fact that people will just want to buy the best cuts and leave you with all the ribs and tough stuff (I get all that made into sausages and burgers with my own spice mix).
If you overcharge then you lose a customer for next year, if you undercharge then you lose out. It is difficult

I charge average market price plus all transport, kill and butchering costs!

I charge £100 plus the slaughter and butcher costs. The butcher costs vary with how people want their lambs cutting up or mincing.

Yes about £8 per kg. I don't get to complicated on cuts. A couple of joints from shoulder and leg, chops and or rack of lamb, mince. If they want something more complicated taint might be an extra.

Thank you all, I think i'll go with the £100 plus slaughter and butchers cost as the lady did want a fair amount of work i.e. shoulders boned & rolled etc.
Hope they live up to expectations :fc: :yum:
