Title: Looking for land in Dartmoor
Post by: mariegold on August 30, 2016, 03:09:07 pm
Hello,

We are looking for land to either rent or buy in Dartmoor. Preferably near South Zeal (as there is a house in the village we would like to buy).

The land is for our four nanny goats.

Anything considered.

Thank you :fc:

Have you looked through Sawdye and Harris, Rendells or Stags listings ? S and H would be your best bet!

Hi Devonlady, yes we have and there isn't anything suitable/affordable at the moment.

Do you mind me asking where you are based in Devon? We might spread our search out beyond Dartmoor and would be interested to know where all the smallholders are!

I'm afraid that the land/houses down that way will be more expensive than other places, as everyone wants to live there. Have you tried this?

Hi WBF, we were buying a smallholding in mid Wales but had to let in go in the end..... had loads of issues with damp and dodgy planning issues. So now we've got our sights on Devon but, as you say, its sooooo expensive.

We just want to find somewhere nice with a good community around and commutable to a place of work. Might have  to have a reality check at some point though!

If you haven't yet joined DASH (Devon Association of Smallholders), then you might want to do so.  You'll get access to the membership list, I think, and DASH Classifieds are very useful.  (Or at least they were when I was a member ten years ago, and I believe it's all still running much as before - although more on t'internet now than there was back then.)

Hi mariegold,
We are based just outside Okehampton, towards Lewdown, easy access to A30, cheaper than South Zeal area.
There is a small holding for sale next door to us. 3 bed bungalow and 2 acres, £415,000. Estate agents West Country homes online.
Best of luck  :)
