not noticed any more spiders than normal , but they don't worry me so maybe thats why ? I have noticed loads of daddy long legs though ....I don't know why , but I hate the things . So I catch the buggers and feed them to the spiders that have their webs around the place... The spiders even know when I am about to feed them now !!! they come out ready ..
Daddy long legs come out about this time of year and again in the autumn .

Cheers

 Russ

To my mind Daddy long Legs is not the problem its former life as a leather jacket in your veg plot is though bluudi things.Spiders I cannot understand this Arachnophobia bit in the UK we haven't any that will harm you.Look in autumn at some of the beautiful webs they make It's watching to many horror films ;D ;D ;D ??? ;D ;D ;D  :farmer:

I know it's irrational but I hate them the thought of a spider crawling on me makes my flesh creep.. And daddy ugh their wings buzz and the dive bomb you.. Mind I will get rid of them myself my daughter just runs screaming from the room. No sense to it is there such tiny little beasts that can do no harm to us.

we had a massive house spider the other week and i mean massive!! Jess was down having her morning cup of tea and watching C-Beebies and suddenly i heard her breaking her heart so rushed in and finally got her to tell me what was wrong and she pointed at 'him' so we called him Burt and everyday she would run down and say 'hello Burt'.
Last night disaster we havent seen Burt for a couple of days, so i told her that he was off catching flies and had gone to live with nanny & grampy for a quiter life in the villages!! Quick whats tonights excuse  ???

I've not noticed many spiders either - plenty of flies though  :P
And bumble bees  :bee: - HUGE bumble bees  :o About 2 inches long and as fat as my thumb, I've had to rescue 3 from the house just in the last 2 days. I even wondered if they were 'queens' but I don't know enough about them to be sure, anyone else got them ?

winslow porker I think you'll have to tell Jess that Burt has done his bit in curing her spider fear so has now gone to help another little girl  ;)
scarlett our 3 year old can't even look at a money spider without screaming the house down - don't know where she gets THAT from  ::)

we've had a few big hairy ones here with huge legs - the cat eats them mainly.

No daddy long legs here yet but they will come! We always have lots - and am constantly unearthing them as leatherjackets. I think there is something you can spray on your grass to kill them but cant remember what!
I read that if you water the grass then cover it in black polythene overnight they come to the surface - so you could collect them or better still set the chickens on the wee buggers!

I like bunny rabbits, I like frogs
I like pussy cats and I like dogs
Talking to a spider is like falling off a log
Being friendly to the animals is easy
But a
Spider in the bath
Spider in the bath
Creepy crawly creepy crawlie spider in the bath
I know he's only there because he wants to have a laugh
I know I flushed him down the drain, but now he's climbing up the chain...

So why do the spiders just sit there!!! I love them but they just stay until you get them out of the way, they must be NEMO's

I don't actually love them Sandy .I watch and enjoy seeing them do their thing in the garden later. We have a Agapantha plant in a large tub and later when it flowers the spiders build giant webs between the flower stalks.Last year he was a heavy and a wasp got entangled and he sat and watched. He didn't go near.A couple of days later the wasp was not in the web it was laid dead in the base of the plant and the web had been repaired so I assumed he had cut the wasp free when it was dead.I have watched very carefully but I don't know where he goes for winter.I always lift them out if they are fast anywhere like the bath or wash basin.I have got Kath convinced not to kill them they eat all sorts of things you don't want about so she puts a glass over them and slides a postcard under the rim then carries the spider out side on the card ,she won't pick it up in her hand. ;D :farmer:
