Title: Electric fencing

My two heifers are growing well - too well in fact - and have taken to shouting over the fence at a neighbour's bull. So far he's shown no interest but when they flash those long eyelashes I reckon it's only a matter of time before he comes calling.
I want to get an effective electric fence and was thinking of permanent wooden posts with a mains fencer (run out from my shed, not too far) and need to know what distance apart the posts should be. I have been making do with plastic posts and tape and changing the semi-flat old car batteries every other day.
Anyone know the correct distance between posts and what gauge of wire I need?

Hi,

If using high tensile wire you are looking at a post spacing of 10 - 15 M with a wire height of 90cm (2 lines for calves at 60 & 95 cm).

Im sure others will have other ideas, but I have been researching this as we are about to start stocking a wider range of fencing products.

Thanks for that and good luck with the business - I'm afraid I'm a bit out of range to avail of your services but its a great idea to have a specialist business for the two-pig farmer.

Not at all, we deliver to Ireland (S & N)...and we even sell to farmers with 3 Pigs !!
