Title: Half-bred Fell Pony colt
Post by: Hardfeather on May 22, 2010, 11:09:22 am
'Bracklinn Dizzy Rascal' is out of a black Fell pony mare by a traditional coloured cob stallion.

Skewbald, well marked, good flat bone and plenty of feather, with a lovely neat head, good limbs and feet; to make 14hh.

This yearling colt came from the Smith's Bracklinn stud at Braco. He was shown before I bought him and was champion foal at Ormiston show last year.

He is well handled, has been stabled all winter, and now lives out with herd.

He is for sale only to make room for black full bred Fell pony colt.

Priced to sell to good, permanent home. May consider medium term loan as companion. Could be gelded, but worth a look as a colt.

Pics to follow.

Please PM me if interested.

Thanks.

Pic from February this year. More to follow.

He's lovely!

Not that I'm in the market for one, but he is lovely. I love skewbald's as well.

That's yet another reason I wish I had more land - a good honest pony for my grandchildren

Never mind the grandkids- one for you Annie! I was offered a horse not long before we moved here, and I was so tempted to take him. He was huge, a shire cross that a well meaning parent had bought his 14 year old daughter as her first pony!  :o They realised he was too much for her, and sold him again, and I still wish I had taken him.

ooh, he is lovely!!  I have pure bred Dales and Fells.  Never bred them to a coloured stallion myself, but have seen some stunning Dales x with coloureds.  But not seen a coloured Fell x before.

Do you breed your Fells, Roxy? Rascal could be a nice stallion for you. You could breed coloured three quarter Fell ponies with him. They would sell like hot cakes. ;D

I've got a 2yr old half Fell filly too. She is out of my coloured mare and by a stallion which was here in transit to Cornwall. The filly is piebald. I'll take a pic to post here.

I've just arranged to put my mare to Bracklinn Jackpot this year...have you seen him? http://bracklinnfellponies.co.uk/index.htm

I do like the Fell pony. They are such a versatile breed, and very active and bright.

Yes, we have a very nice breeding Fell, and also numberous Dales mares.  Like I say, never tried  covering with a coloured, but definitely a good idea - especially as your boy has Fell in him as well.   But I dare not have any more ponies sadly, we need to cut down. Had intended keeping last years Dales colt entire, but have just had him gelded instead.

I am sure you will soon sell your colt - he is really nice.  The Bracklinn ponies are good ponies.  But my heart does lie firmly with the Dales ponies if I had to chose  :D

Little Blue, you are more than welcome to come and have a ride on one of our ponies.  That way you do not need the field, nor the bigger bank balance. :D

That sounds interesting...can't wait to see the results.

I have a half Fell pony filly here, a 2yr old, out of my coloured mare by a pony stallion. I've got a Fell pony colt earmarked for me at weaning and my plan is to breed half and three quarter fells.

Roxy...I like the Dales, but I prefer the Fell.  ;D

They are a lovely pair of girls, a skewbald and a roan of some kind and white (maybe some kind of spot in it too) (im fascinated with colouring and genes  ;D), they have a bit of bone about them but no feather, both blue eyed, around 13/14hh, ill have to get some pics they good strong ponys
They skew looks to be around a month/2 off but the other i saw was being covered early this spring, they have potential with the bone and the fells feather hopefully will turn out to be grand foals :)

Also a fan of natives but its new forests for me  ;)
Breeding natives with coloureds is fab, coloureds are the trend with all the BIG benefits of good hardy natives!!!! You cant go wrong!!!  ;)

I have a Dales x Fell gelding, a very substantial pony he is.  His Mum is a registered Fell who does well in the show ring, and his Dad is a registered champion Dales.  He is registered with the Dales pony society as a part bred.  Its strange if we ride him out with one of the Dales mares. People say he is the Dales and she is the Fell!!
